Both ripe and Unripe Citrus fruits should be taken with moderation because too much intake of oranges can come with serious side effects.

1. Too much intake of unripe orange, can cause the fiber content to affect digestion thereby causing abdominal cramps which can also lead to diarrhea.

2. It’s true oranges are low in calories but eating too much of it can lead to weight gain.

3. An excess intake of vitamin C may lead to diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, bloating according to the Mayo Clinic.

4. Being a high acid food, Unripe oranges can lead to heartburn especially for those who already suffer from heartburn.

5. People who are taking beta blockers should be careful and avoid too much intake of fruits like oranges and bananas because they’re high in potassium, according to the American Heart Association to avoid excessive potassium in the body.

Orange peels are not poisonous to the body which means it can be eaten. Ripe orange peels come with a big flavor punch which makes it easily edible while Unripe orange peels are edible too but they are not as sweet or as juicy as the pulp.

3. Unripe Orange peels contain calcium, vitamins A, B and C. However, you can get these nutrients by eating the inner part of the peel.

4. The white part between the skin and the fruit contains as much vitamin C as the fruit itself.
